Greetings in Christ!

This note comes with gratitude and appreciation for your generous giving during the year 2017. We are appreciative to everyone who has not only obeyed God in the area of tithing, but also in your giving to the various projects, missions, and special offerings received throughout the year. We don’t present these needs without thoughtful consideration of their value to the Kingdom of God, as well as how we can best reflect Christ in our community and around the world.

We realize it takes sacrifice to give, yet the rewards are tremendous as I’m sure you have realized along the way. The following short story is one of my favorite regarding the heart for giving which brings great reward to the receiver as well as the giver.

The African boy listened carefully as the teacher explained why it is that Christians give presents to each other on Christmas Day. “The gift is an expression of our joy over the birth of Jesus and our friendship for each other,” she said. When Christmas Day came, the boy brought the teacher a sea shell of lustrous beauty. “Where did you ever find such a beautiful shell?” the teacher asked. The youth told her that there was only one spot where such extraordinary shells could be found—a certain bay several miles away. “Why…why, it’s gorgeous,” said the teacher. “But you shouldn’t have gone all that way to get a gift for me.” His eyes brightening, the boy answered, “Long walk part of gift.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV) 6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

No goods or services were exchanged between you and the church for the contribution(s) we received other than intangible religious benefits.

May God continue to bless you as you continue in this year ahead to be faithful in your giving. Remember, when the journey seems to be getting long the statement of the young man in the story…”long walk part of gift”.

In Christ,

Pastor E.

p.s. special thank you to all of you who generously responded to the challenge gift.  Because of your generosity, we exceeded the challenge and raised $52,181.91.  We will go into the new year with our mortgage way below the $200k.
