Classes & Schedule

Schedule of Offered Classes

2 1/2 to 3 Years – Social and Emotional

This is the youngest class at FLP. The teachers provide a fun and loving environment. Sometimes separation can be a challenge, however, the staff is well prepared in this area and works with the parents to make sure the transition is handled as smoothly as possible.

The teachers are well trained for this young group of preschoolers. They understand the developmental needs of each child at this stage and accommodate each child on an individual level as well.

The focus is on the social and emotional development. This is usually a child’s first experience in a classroom environment, so learning how to get along, share and take turns is a vital step in their growth. Play with a purpose is a large part of their day, using playdough to build fine motor skills and outdoor play to build large muscles. Exposure to letters, numbers, and name recognition is also a part of their day to stimulate the cognitive growth.

This class is offered only on Tuesday/Thursday mornings from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

3 Years – Self-Confidence and Teamwork

The Threes classroom provides a fun learning environment to build on children’s natural sense of curiosity and exploration. Children at this age learn by doing. There are many hands-on activities provided for the children that help them create an emotional relevance to what they are learning. Instead of writing letters on a worksheet, they may write it in shaving cream so they can better feel and learn.

Teachers are always nearby to help initiate or expand imaginative play. This helps to develop thinking and problem-solving skills. Children at this age are right-brain learners, and the teachers create an environment to stimulate this type of learning.

“Imagination is greater than knowledge.” — Albert Einstein

4 Years – Social, Emotion and Cognitive Growth

The Fours classroom helps get the children ready for kindergarten. The teachers first establish a foundation incorporating play, creativity, and language to ensure a firm building block for higher learning to occur. Using a thematic approach, teachers use topics that children can relate to and incorporate age and appropriate activities centered around that theme.

Pre-reading – Butterfly Phonics helps the children learn sounds of letters through song and body movement.

Math – Counting, sequencing, and patterning helps the children understand the concept of numerals.

Science – Weather, cooking, and animal life are used as introductory science concepts to stimulate questions and answers.

Creativity – Using art, imaginative play, and music, help children fuel excitement for learning

Classes offered:

  • Monday/Wednesday/Friday mornings 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Monday/Wednesday/Friday afternoons 12:45 AM to 3:45 PM
  • Tuesday/Thursday mornings 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

5 Years – Junior Kindergarten

This classroom is specifically designed for those children who just miss the cut-off for kindergarten (5 by October 1st) or those who need a little more prep time. The teachers continue to build the social, emotional, and physical aspects of the children, yet still emphasizing the cognitive piece. The classroom is designed to create an environment in which learning is fun. The children will master the skills necessary to enter kindergarten and the teacher will help each child reach their fullest potential. Many children will begin writing simple words and even reading. The use of Bob Books and Dr. Seuss (rhyming and repetition) supports this growth in language development.

This class is offered Monday through Thursday afternoons from 12:45 pm to 3:45 pm.
