Church Staff

  • Ebassa Berhanu
    Lead Pastor

    Ebassa joined the Faith Lutheran Church family in September 2011 as an Assistant Pastor for Youth and Family, and in July 2013 accepted the Lead Pastor role. He is theologically moderate and orthodox. He believes the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16), inerrant in the original writings, complete as the revelation of God’s will for salvation, and the supreme and final authority in all matters to which they speak.


    As Lead Pastor,  Ebassa is responsible for spreading a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ. He provides pastoral leadership for the staff, council, and congregation of Faith Lutheran Church, enabling the church staff and congregation to carry out its mission and our DNA. He desires to see everyone in the Castle Rock area come to know and love Jesus, and each other, through a genuine community.


    He enjoys running, reading, watching movies and loves spending time with his wife and four energetic children.

  • Shannon Fielding
    Director of Children & Family Ministry

    Shannon and her family joined the Faith Lutheran Church family in February 2004.  She has taught elementary school and is a licensed teacher with a Masters degree in curriculum and instruction.  In December 2013 she joined the staff as Director of Children and Family Ministries.  


    As the Director of Children and Family Ministries, she is responsible for our Sunday School programming (Preschool – 6th grade), our summer community sports camp outreach, planning family activities,and childcare programming during church functions, courses and events.  She desires to see every child, young and young at heart,  in the Castle Rock area come to know and love Jesus.

  • Gretchen Lozano
    Children & Family Ministry Coordinator

    Gretchen and her family joined Faith Lutheran Church in February 2016.  She worked as a preschool teacher for nine years.  Additionally, Gretchen has worked in the medical health system as a secretary and in the billing office for five years.  In September 2018, she joined the staff at Faith Lutheran Church as the Children and Family Ministry Coordinator.


    In her new role, she works with the Director of Children and Family Ministries preparing the Sunday School programming and summer community sports camp outreach.  Additionally, Gretchen assists in the planning of family activities and coordinates the nursery program during church functions, courses, and events.


    Gretchen has a heart for working with children, watching them grow in their learning and also in their faith.  She enjoys spending time with her husband and two girls going for walks, riding bikes or just relaxing at home.

  • Jennifer Barrera
    Music Director

    Jennifer Barrera, a Nebraska native, has been steeped in Lutheran worship music since early childhood, playing piano, singing, and accompanying music ensembles and worship services. Upon graduating high school,  she enlisted to become a United States Marine musician, playing military ceremonial music as well as funk/fusion, rock, pop, jazz, and symphonic wind ensemble.


    She earned her Bachelor's of Science in Vocal and Instrumental Education from Chadron State College in northwest Nebraska in 2008. She majored in piano and voice and has had the privilege of being taught by Pat Randolph, Ray Young, and Dr. James Margetts. After graduation, she moved to Castle Rock and taught K-8 music in Parker, Colorado for nine years. She joined the staff of Faith Lutheran Church in 2014.


    Jennifer’s family includes her husband,  Moises “Moe” and their son. Her extended family goes all the way to Maine with a deep tradition of music and the love of Jesus Christ.

  • Nicki Harmon
    Choir Accompanist

    Nicki Harmon began piano lessons at the age of five. She grew up playing piano in church. As a music major, her lessons continued through two years of college.  Subsequently, became music director and pianist for churches in Alliance and Columbus, Ohio. She toured Ohio and Europe as a pianist and assistant director for the All Ohio Youth Choir. Other instruments she pursued during high school and college were a saxophone, bassoon, and organ.


    She graduated from Goshen College with a BA in accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). Prior to relocating to Colorado in 2011 from Ohio, Nicki founded and managed her local CPA firm, as well as performing duties as Controller for privately-held businesses.  She continues to prepare taxes during tax season for a Denver firm.


    Her joy is her faith and family -  daughter Kimberly and her husband, Brian, and grandsons Alec and Devin.  They are the reason for her moving to Castle Rock because they became transplants from Ohio in 2010 and Ohio was just too far away.

  • Jolene Hessler
    Administrative Assistant

    Jolene and her family joined Faith Lutheran Church in September of 2003. She has worked as a Paralegal and school secretary before coming to FLC. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education. In May of 2016, she joined the staff as the Administrative Assistant for the church and preschool.


    As the Administrative Assistant, she is responsible for our weekend bulletins, powerpoints, and announcements. In addition, she oversees the special programming such as guest speakers, congregation gatherings and meetings, funerals, weddings, and manages the church calendar.


    Jolene enjoys working with church members and loves seeing all of the children who come through the preschool knowing that they are learning about the love of Jesus.

  • Tyler Newman
    Youth Minister

    Tyler joined the Faith Lutheran Church family in August 2019. Tyler graduated from Colorado Christian University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry. He leads our Middle School and High School ministries, and his greatest joy is watching students fall in love with Jesus. His desire is to see families genuinely grow in Christ. Tyler has been serving in youth ministries for over 10 years. Tyler moved to Colorado in 2012 from Southern California where his family resides. His favorite outdoor activities are snowboarding, golf, and mountain biking.

  • Sheila Stone
    Financial Secretary

    Sheila joined Faith Lutheran Church staff in January 2013 and manages all of the finances for both the Church and Preschool. Her responsibilities include processing all donations, tuition payments, payroll, and accounts payable. She has a wide array of talents and managerial skills which lead her to overseeing special projects and working to establish best practices within the office. On top of all of this, Sheila also serves as a liaison for all maintenance personnel.


    Sheila is a Colorado native and enjoys spending time and making memories with her 3 children. She loves the outdoors - biking, hiking, camping, and gardening. She is thankful to be a part of Faith Lutheran Church and Preschool!



Church Council

  • Becky Geiger

    The Council President presides at all meetings of the congregation, Council, and Executive Committee. Along with the many administrative functions of this position, Becky coordinates and oversees that the ministry of this congregation is carried out in accordance with the Constitution, Bylaws, and continuing resolutions.


    Becky has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Systems and an MBA in E-Commerce and Operations Management. She worked for the Department of Defense in Information Technology services and Project Management for 37 years retiring from serving as Chief, Services Support Branch, Customer Engagement Center in 2013. In retirement, she has been involved in the non-profit community serving as a project coordinator for the 9Health Fair in Castle Rock for two years, becoming certified as a Health Coverage Guide in 2016 helping members of the community find health insurance and other health related services, Certified as an Advanced Care Planning Guide with Denver Hospice and currently working towards acceptance into a new Colorado state registry as a Health Navigator.


    Becky and her husband, Brad, married for 35 years, have been active members at Faith Lutheran Church since 1994. Their son, Jesse, his wife, Rachel and their newborn baby girl, Evelyn are Missionaries in Uganda developing water and solar power solutions in remote areas.


    Becky also enjoys skiing, hiking, traveling the world with Brad and spending time with family and friends.

  • Karl Kruger

    Karl, his wife Caroline, and their children Kyle and Kelsey have been blessed to call Faith Lutheran Church and Castle Rock their home for many years. Kelsey was confirmed here and their granddaughter Harper was baptized here as well. Kyle is currently living in Portland, OR; Kelsey and Matt (our wonderful son-in-law AKA St. Matthew), and Harper live in Albuquerque, NM. Karl is blessed to be able to work with the youth at FLY (they thought they were getting adult supervision when they allowed him to help, little did they know…).


    When not hanging out with the youth, skiing or biking, Karl is a Captain and Evaluator at United Airlines. He has served and chaired non-profit boards and other community entities in the Castle Rock and Denver Metro Area, but his most rewarding, meaningful, and enjoyable contributions continue to happen with his friends at Faith Lutheran Church.

  • Joe Bush

    Nearly a Colorado native, Joe has been in Colorado since the age of 2. He grew up in Aurora and enjoyed playing all sports, reading comic books and drawing. After high school, Joe earned a degree in Economics from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and two master’s degrees in Operations Management and Finance, from Regis University. Although he’s worked in several fields (finance, technology, and healthcare), he knew Colorado was always the place to be.


    Joe met his wife, Laura, in 1997 and began attending Faith Lutheran Church as a guest. They were married at Faith in 2002 and have grown their family to include two daughters (Kiley – 9 and Delaney – 6), who were both baptized at Faith.


    Joe previously served on the Executive Council as Financial Secretary and Treasurer, respectively, and currently serves as Council Secretary. He’s also “served” on Faith’s now-defunct softball and basketball teams, as well as a few other committees and/or small groups.


    When not attending one of his daughter’s numerous activities, he can be found playing with the family dog (Mikey) or watching local sports and / or bad 80s movies.  

  • Deb Rister

    Deb and her husband moved to Colorado in 1981 from Idaho. They raised their two daughters in Parker and Elizabeth. When the girls left home, their parents moved to Castle Rock, so Deb and her husband moved to Castle Rock in 2015 to care for them.


    Faith quickly became their church. She loves the multiple small groups that are available for fellowship. Previously Deb worked as a bookkeeper for a financial advisor for many years, so Treasurer is a perfect way for her to serve our Lord at Faith Lutheran church.

  • Becky Heacock

    Becky was born in McCook, Nebraska and was baptized into the Missouri Lutheran Church at the age of 2 weeks.  She grew up on a farm in south central Nebraska, the second of 5 daughters.  Being a farmer, her father really wanted a son, and not getting one, Becky filled that role for him.


    Becky moved to Larkspur, Colorado in 1992 and then to Castle Rock in 2000. She joined Faith Lutheran in 2003.  In 2006, Becky married Max Heacock and they currently live on an acreage on Willow Creek Road.  Since moving to Willow Creek Road, she has returned to her farm roots as she and Max have horses and cattle and put up hay every summer to feed their livestock.


    Max and Becky have 3 children still living, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Life is good!!!

  • Brenden Coney

    Brenden was born in the Murrieta, CA but has grown up in beautiful Colorado since 2005 with his parents, Craig, and Lisa, and his two younger siblings, Dillen and Marissa. Brenden and his family have been attending Faith Lutheran Church since 2010. He attended Castle View high school and recently graduated in May of 2018.


    Brenden started his own woodworking company in the fall of 2013, which he has continued to pursue for the past several years. He has opted to skip college and pursue his woodworking business which has become his full-time job.


    In his free time, Brenden loves to go hiking, skiing, camping, volunteering, spending time with friends and travel!  

  • Guy Fittje
    Spiritual Growth

    Guy Fittje is a native of Colorado and spent much of his youth in the Castle Rock and Larkspur areas. As a child, Guy attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Littleton and then his family joined Faith Lutheran Church in 1985, while the church was still meeting at the Cantril School Building in Castle Rock. Guy has also been a member of Joy Lutheran Church in Parker, was a founding member and council secretary for a new church in Parker known as Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church, and is a third generation member of Lutheran Valley Ranch in Teller County, Colorado. In 2015, Guy and his wife returned to Faith Lutheran Church as he felt called to serve God at this church home which had been an important part of his early life.


    Guy was a real estate appraiser for 20 years, specializing in relocations for corporations and government agencies, and is currently a department administrator for a large public utility district in the Denver Metro area. Guy was a volunteer and leader with the Boy Scouts of America for over a decade, has served as a volunteer in youth sports programs, and has managed or participated in several service projects over the past two decades. Guy has been blessed to be married for 27 years to his wife Stephanie, who is an educator of young children with special needs. They have three grown sons, all of whom are married and two of which are twins and serve in the military. Guy and Stephanie have been blessed by the addition of the three wonderful daughters-in-law and then two young grandsons to the family.


    As the Council Member for Spiritual Growth, Guy seeks to faithfully serve God and His work by being in a loving relationship with Him, by loving others as Jesus exemplified, and by honoring the truth of God’s Word. Some Bible passages which Guy finds powerfully speak to him are Proverbs 3 and John 14:6.

  • Stephanie Brueggemann

    Stephanie Brueggemann was raised in Northern Minnesota and attended college at the University of North Dakota. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with teaching certification.


    While at UND, she met her husband, Michael. They were both very active in the Lutheran Campus Ministry at Christus Rex. Following college, they married and started on their journey of moving 14 times with Michael’s work, a construction company! They have lived in NV, AZ, and CO. They moved to Castle Rock in 2012 and have lived in their home here longer than any other place they’ve been.


    They have two daughters, one in college and one in high school. As a family, they enjoy playing and watching sports. They love the outdoor activities that CO has to offer year-round. From hiking and fishing to skiing and ice skating, Colorado has something for every season.


    She has really enjoyed getting to know our Faith Lutheran Church family better and looks forward to serving our church as Worship Council Member.

  • Deb Van Sicklin

    Deb Van Sicklin was born and raised in Westchester County, New York.  She received her Associate of Arts Degree in 1993 from Westchester Community College.  Deb also attended Metropolitan State University in Denver and Arapahoe Community College, where she took Early Childhood Education classes. Deb has been married to Thomas forever (haha) and they have three beautiful children.  The Van Sicklin family have been members of Faith Lutheran Church since 2001.


    Deb is a lover of animals and they have 2 large dogs, 2 cats, and chickens.  The Van Sicklin family fosters Big Dogs Huge Paws. Deb worked for Mid-Continent Regional Education Laboratory as an Administrative and Research Assistant.  She also worked as an Administrative Assistant for Douglas County School District, for the Director of Curriculum. Since 2011, Deb has been a part of the Faith Lutheran Preschool team.  She teaches three and four-year-olds.


    Her favorite past times are skiing, hiking and traveling the country visiting the National parks with her family.  Deb loves to be out in nature, where she feels and sees God in all His creation ….

  • Jean Whisman
    Preschool Director

    Since 2012 as Preschool Director, Jean leads the staff at Faith Lutheran Preschool build a foundation of curiosity, hope and love for every student in a Christian environment.  As a staff they make sure each child reaches their fullest potential, not just academically, but physically, socially, emotionally, creatively, and spiritually areas as well.


    Originally from Virginia, Jean moved to Colorado in 2003 with her husband and two sons.  Baseball is a large part of their lives, both as spectators and players.  Jean left behind a career in business in order to purse her dream of working with children.  With a degree in both Business and Early Childhood, her is to really make a difference in children’s lives and provide them with the necessary skills to develop into successful adults.

  • Chris Barstad
    Pre Kindergarten Teacher

    Chris is originally from northern Minnesota.  Her passion has always involved children.  At age 16 Chris started teaching Sunday school and knew education was in her future.  She received and Elementary Education Degree from Moorhead State University.  She and her husband moved to Colorado in 1994 and keep busy with their 4 boys and multiple dogs.  All of Chris’ children were lucky to attend FLP!  She and her family loved the philosophy, care and education the FLP provided. 

  • Denise Cooper
    Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

    Denise joined the staff at Faith Lutheran Preschool in 2005.  She has an Associate’s Degree Early Childhood Education as well as Director Certification.  She is married and has 2 sons, the youngest attended FLP for 2 years.  During that time she loved the love, joy and faith-based academics present in the preschool.  Denise loves working with children and looks forward to start building a foundation with your child.

  • Leslie Farmer
    Junior Kindergarten Teacher

    Leslie has been at Faith Lutheran Preschool since 2009 and has lived in Colorado for most of her life.  Prior to working at FLP, Leslie was a substitute teacher at her children’s school and has taught in many areas of children’s ministry.  When she is not teaching kids, Leslie enjoys reading, walking her dogs, baking and spending time with her family.  She truly enjoys working with young children and appreciates their enthusiasm for learning and their creativity.

  • Sandy Vega
    Teacher Assistant & Lunch Bunch Teacher

    Sandy has worked at Faith Lutheran Preschool since 2005.  She has a wonderful husband and 4 adult children.  Sandy’s love is to see how her family serves Jesus and love others with God.  Her favorite verse to pray is Psalm 91.

  • Deb Van Sicklin
    Preschool Teacher

    Deb is originally from Westchester County, New York where she received a Liberal Arts degree from Westchester Community College.  She has a major in Behavioral Science from Metro State. She and her husband have 3 children, several dogs, a huge cat and some chickens and ducks.  In her free time, she and her family like to camp, hike and ski.  All of her children attended FLP and she feels very blessed to teach children about God’s love.

  • Sally Garrick
    Assistant Teacher

    Sally joined Faith Lutheran Preschool in 2011 after both of her children attended preschool here.  She has lived in Castle Rock since 2004.  Sally has coached volleyball and is very involved in her kids sports and activities. 

  • Jody Croom
    Assistant Teacher

    Jody is not only a Colorado native, but grew up in Castle Rock and attended Douglas County High School.  Her husband is with the Castle Rock Fire Department and they have 3 young adult boys.  Jody has a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Fort Lewis and received a teaching certificate from Metro State.  She looks forward each school year to getting to know and connect with the children.

  • Anne Beh
    Assistant Teacher

    Anne is originally from Nebraska (Go Big Red!), and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Design.  After college she lived in Dallas, Texas before moving to Colorado in 1994.  Anne and her husband have 2 teenagers.  She joined the staff of Faith Lutheran Preschool in 2013 after many years of experience teaching in children’s ministry programs and other child care centers.  Anne loves working with the preschoolers and sharing her joy and faith with them

  • Jeannie Reddan
    Lunch Bunch

    Jeannie joined the staff of Faith Lutheran Preschool in 2018 after all 3 of her children attended preschool here.  She is originally from Houston Texas and moved to Colorado in 2005.  Jeannie spends a lot of her time volunteering at her childrens’ current school and watching them pursue their love of sports.  Her passion is helping others and Jeannie is excited to help the young children of FLP through their first experiences of school by using the word of God.

  • Julie Taylor
    Assistant Teacher

    Julie is originally from northern California and moved to Colorado in 2008 with her husband.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Cal Poly and her teaching credential and M.A. in Education at Chapman University.  She taught elementary school before becoming a stay at home mom for her 3 kids, all of which attended FLP.  Along with Julie’s love of teaching, she enjoys hiking, paddleboarding, reading, skiing and spending time with her family.

  • Suzanne Kenny
    Preschool Teacher

    Suzanne graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Child Development.  She and her husband moved to Colorado in 2012 with their 5 children.  She and her family are very active and love sports and being outside.  Suzanne was a swimmer growing up and has a passion for teaching swimming to all ages.  She has worked in preschool, religious education, substitute taught and home-schooled her own children.

  • Kelly Brown
    Preschool Teacher

    Kelly has a degree in Early Childhood Education and over 20 years teaching experience.  She is originally from Indiana and moved to Colorado shortly after college.  Kelly has 3 young adult children and enjoys spending time outside, playing games, traveling and reading.  She loves teaching preschool and connecting with the children, connecting and having fun while learning is what teaching is all about!

  • Bre Vingo
    Preschool Teacher

    Bre has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Colorado State University and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education from Concordia University.  She and her husband moved from Nebraska to Colorado in 2015 and 2 wonderful children.  Bre spends her free time supporting her children’s activities along with camping, boating and cooking.
